대승정종분 제삼
大乘正宗分 第三

불고수보리 제보살마하살 응여시항복기심 소유일체중생지류
佛告須菩提 諸菩薩摩訶薩 應如是降伏其心 所有一切衆生之類
약난생 약태생 약습생 약화생 약유색 약무색 약유상 약무상
若卵生 若胎生 若濕生 若化生 若有色 若無色 若有想 若無想
약비유상 비무상 아개영입무여열반 이멸도지 여시멸도
若非有想 非無想 我皆令入無餘涅槃 而滅度之 如是滅度
무량무수무변중생 실무중생 득멸도자 하이고 수보리 약보살
無量無數無邊衆生 實無衆生 得滅度者 何以故 須菩提 若菩薩
유아상인상중생상수자상 즉비보살
有我相人相衆生相壽者相 卽非菩薩

Chapter Three: The Section on the True Teachings of the Great Vehicle

大乘 (대승): 큰 수레, 대승불교 / Great Vehicle, Mahayana
正宗 (정종): 바른 가르침, 핵심 교리 / True Teachings, Essential Doctrine
分 (나눌 분): 장, 단락 / Chapter, Section
第 (차례 제): 순서 / Order, Sequence
三 (셋 삼): 세 번째 / Third

 

➡ 부처님께서 보살이 모든 중생을 멸도시키되 집착 없이 수행해야 함을 가르치시는 세 번째 장
The third chapter where the Buddha teaches that bodhisattvas should liberate all beings without attachment.

 

불고수보리 제보살마하살 응여시항복기심 소유일체중생지류
佛告須菩提 諸菩薩摩訶薩 應如是降伏其心 所有一切衆生之類
The Buddha said to Subhuti: All great bodhisattvas should subdue their minds thus: All kinds of beings

佛 (부처 불): 부처님 / Buddha
告 (말할 고): 말하다 / Speak, Tell
須菩提 (수보리): Subhuti (a prominent disciple of the Buddha)
諸 (모두 제): 모든 / All
菩薩摩訶薩 (보살마하살): 큰 보살, 위대한 보살 / Great Bodhisattvas
應 (응할 응): 마땅히 / Should
如是 (여시): 이와 같이 / Thus, In this way
降伏 (항복): 항복시키다, 다스리다 / Subdue, Tame
其心 (기심): 그 마음 / Their minds
所有 (소유): 모든, 소유한 / All, Possessed
一切 (일체): 모든 / All, Everything
衆生 (중생): 중생, 모든 생명 / Beings, Sentient Beings
之類 (지류): 종류 / Kinds, Categories

 

➡ 부처님께서 수보리에게 말씀하시길: 모든 위대한 보살은 이와 같이 마음을 다스려야 한다: 모든 중생의 종류
The Buddha said to Subhuti: All great bodhisattvas should subdue their minds in this way: All kinds of sentient beings

 

약난생 약태생 약습생 약화생 약유색 약무색 약유상 약무상
若卵生 若胎生 若濕生 若化生 若有色 若無色 若有想 若無想
Whether born from eggs, wombs, moisture, or transformation; whether with form or without form; whether with thought or without thought

若 (약): 만약 / If, Whether
卵生 (난생): 알에서 태어남 / Born from eggs
胎生 (태생): 태에서 태어남 / Born from wombs
濕生 (습생): 습기에서 태어남 / Born from moisture
化生 (화생): 변화하여 태어남 / Born from transformation
有色 (유색): 형체가 있음 / With form
無色 (무색): 형체가 없음 / Without form
有想 (유상): 생각이 있음 / With thought
無想 (무상): 생각이 없음 / Without thought

 

➡ 알에서 태어난, 태에서 태어난, 습기에서 태어난, 변화하여 태어난, 형체가 있는, 형체가 없는, 생각이 있는, 생각이 없는
Whether born from eggs, wombs, moisture, or transformation; whether with form or without form; whether with thought or without thought

 

약비유상 비무상 아개영입무여열반 이멸도지
若非有想 非無想 我皆令入無餘涅槃 而滅度之
Whether neither with thought nor without thought, I will lead them all to enter the nirvana without remainder and liberate them

非有想 (비유상): 생각이 있지 않음 / Neither with thought
非無想 (비무상): 생각이 없지 않음 / Nor without thought
我 (아): 나 / I
皆 (개): 모두 / All
令 (영): 하게 하다 / Cause, Lead
入 (입): 들어가다 / Enter
無餘涅槃 (무여열반): 나머지 없는 열반 / Nirvana without remainder
而 (이): 그리고 / And
滅度 (멸도): 열반에 이르게 하다 / Liberate, Lead to extinction

 

➡ 생각이 있지도 않고 없지도 않은, 나는 모두 나머지 없는 열반에 들어가게 하고 그들을 멸도시킨다
Whether neither with thought nor without thought, I will cause them all to enter the nirvana without remainder and liberate them

 

여시멸도 무량무수무변중생 실무중생 득멸도자
如是滅度 無量無數無邊衆生 實無衆生 得滅度者
Thus liberating countless, immeasurable, boundless beings, in reality, no beings attain liberation

如是 (여시): 이와 같이 / Thus, In this way
滅度 (멸도): 열반에 이르게 하다 / Liberate, Lead to extinction
無量 (무량): 헤아릴 수 없음 / Immeasurable
無數 (무수): 셀 수 없음 / Countless
無邊 (무변): 끝없음 / Boundless
衆生 (중생): 중생 / Beings, Sentient Beings
實 (실): 실제로 / In reality
無 (무): 없음 / No, None
得 (득): 얻다 / Attain
滅度者 (멸도자): 멸도한 자 / Those who attain liberation

 

➡ 이와 같이 헤아릴 수 없고, 셀 수 없고, 끝없는 중생을 멸도시키지만, 실제로는 멸도된 중생이 없다
Thus liberating countless, immeasurable, boundless beings, in reality, no beings attain liberation

 

하이고 수보리 약보살 유아상인상중생상수자상 즉비보살
何以故 須菩提 若菩薩 有我相人相衆生相壽者相 卽非菩薩
Why is this? Subhuti, if a bodhisattva has the notion of a self, a person, a being, or a life span, they are not a bodhisattva

何以故 (하이고): 왜냐하면 / Why is this?
須菩提 (수보리): Subhuti
若 (약): 만약 / If
菩薩 (보살): 보살 / Bodhisattva
有 (유): 있음 / Has, Possesses
我相 (아상): 자아의 상 / Notion of a self
人相 (인상): 사람의 상 / Notion of a person
衆生相 (중생상): 중생의 상 / Notion of a being
壽者相 (수자상): 생명의 상 / Notion of a life span
卽 (즉): 즉 / Then, Immediately
非 (비): 아님 / Not
菩薩 (보살): 보살 / Bodhisattva

 

➡ 왜냐하면, 수보리, 만약 보살이 자아의 상, 사람의 상, 중생의 상, 생명의 상을 가진다면, 그는 보살이 아니다
Why is this? Subhuti, if a bodhisattva has the notion of a self, a person, a being, or a life span, they are not a bodhisattva
