수보리 어의운하 가이신상 견여래부 불야 세존 불가이신상

須菩提 於意云何 可以身相 見如來不 佛也 世尊 不可以身相

득견여래 하이고 여래소설신상 즉비신상 불고수보리 범소유상

得見如來 何以故 如來所說身相 卽非身相 佛告須菩提 凡所有相

개시허망 약견제상 비상 즉견여래

皆是虛妄 若見諸相 非相 卽見如來

Chapter Five: The Section on Seeing the Truth According to Reality

 

如理 (여리): 이치에 맞게, 진리에 따라 / According to Reality, In Accordance with Truth
實見 (실견): 참되게 봄, 진실을 봄 / True Seeing, Real Perception

➡ 부처님께서 모든 상(相)은 실체가 없음을 깨닫고, 상에 집착하지 않음으로써 여래를 참되게 볼 수 있음을 가르치시는 다섯 번째 장
The fifth chapter where the Buddha teaches that by realizing all forms are without substance and not clinging to forms, one can truly see the Tathagata.

 

수보리 어의운하 가이신상 견여래부
須菩提 於意云何 可以身相 見如來不
Translation: Subhuti, what do you think? Can the Tathagata be seen by means of physical form?

 

須菩提 (수보리, Subori): Subhuti (a prominent disciple of the Buddha)

於意云何 (어의운하, eouiunha): 어떻게 생각하느냐 / What do you think?

可以 (가이, gai): ~로써 할 수 있다 / By means of

The Buddha asked Subhuti: What do you think? Can the Tathagata be seen by physical form?

 

불야 세존 불가이신상 득견여래
佛也 世尊 不可以身相 得見如來
Translation: No, World-Honored One, the Tathagata cannot be seen by means of physical form.

 

佛 (불, Bul): 부처님 / Buddha

Translation: If one sees that all forms are not forms, then one sees the Tathagata.

➡ 만약 모든 상이 상이 아님을 본다면, 곧 여래를 보는 것이다.
